<\/a>Martin King of Royal Holloway University of London conducted an investigation into the use of Turnitin in Higher Education institutions in the UK related to student access to Turnitin. The survey indicated:<\/p>\n- \n
- Nearly 60% of respondents have a Turnitin usage policy either at the institution, faculty, departmental, or program level.<\/li>\n
- 60% of respondents that have a Turnitin usage policy allow students to view their Originality Reports.<\/li>\n
- 54% of respondents that did not have a Turnitin usage policy allow students to view their Originality Reports.<\/li>\n
- 42% of respondents give students access to their originality reports for all of their assignments.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

NYT Upfront: \u2018Generation Plagiarism\u2019?<\/h3>\n
\u201cCopying and pasting from the Web is just like copying from a book. But too many students either don\u2019t know that it\u2019s cheating\u2014or don\u2019t care,\u201d according to Trip Gabriel\u2019s article, \u201c\u2018Generation Plagiarism\u2019?\u201d in the New York Times UPFRONT \u2013 The Newsmagazine for Teens. He also recounts three anecdotes of students that use someone else\u2019s words without attribution.<\/p>\n
The article also references Sarah Wilensky, a senior at Indiana University who wrote a paper headlined, \u201cGeneration Plagiarism,\u201d in which she says that relaxing plagiarism standards \u201cdoes not foster creativity, it fosters laziness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dennis O\u2019Reilly explains in his article that certain \u201cmisguided souls\u201d continuing to think that all online material is in the public domain. A very common misconception we hear from students.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to a study released last January by the National Bureau of Economic Research, fear of detection may not be the best approach to preventing plagiarism among students. The results of the study indicate that educating students about the importance of academic integrity and what constitutes plagiarism is the most effective deterrent.\u201d<\/p>\n
