{"id":573,"date":"2010-07-28T13:02:16","date_gmt":"2010-07-28T12:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.oucs.ox.ac.uk\/runcoco\/?p=573"},"modified":"2010-07-28T13:50:22","modified_gmt":"2010-07-28T12:50:22","slug":"engaging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/runcoco\/2010\/07\/28\/engaging\/","title":{"rendered":"Engaging talks in Aberystwyth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\">Yesterday, <strong><a title=\"Culturenet Cymru\" href=\"http:\/\/www.culturenetcymru.com\/selectLanguage.php\">Culturenet Cymru<\/a><\/strong> played host to the latest <strong>RunCoCo<\/strong> <a title=\"Free RunCoCo workshops\" href=\"http:\/\/projects.oucs.ox.ac.uk\/runcoco\/events\/\">workshop<\/a>, at the <strong>National Library of Wales<\/strong>, Aberystwyth (27 July 2010). We welcomed about 30 delegates to the excellent <a title=\"NLW conference facilities\" href=\"http:\/\/www.llgc.org.uk\/index.php?id=138\">conference facilities<\/a> of the National Library. As the dust settles we are preparing to publish the programme, the presenters&#8217; slides, and some audio\/video from the day which focussed on <em><strong>engaging communities either online or face-to-face<\/strong><\/em>. These included the risk that a community collection might receive illegal material or the disclosure of illegal activities from potential contributors to the <strong>Mass Observation Communities Online (MOCO)<\/strong> project, (<a title=\"MOCO project\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mocoproject.org.uk\/\">website<\/a> just launched), and the difficulties in attracting contributors to a submissions day for the <strong>Welsh Voices of the Great War Online<\/strong> project, (<a title=\"Welsh Voices\" href=\"http:\/\/www.welshvoices.com\/\">website<\/a> also just launched).<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.llgc.org.uk\/index.php?id=conferenceresources\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"The Drwm, NLW\" src=\"http:\/\/www.llgc.org.uk\/typo3temp\/pics\/25f9f9e878.png\" alt=\"The Drwm, NLW\" width=\"200\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Drwm, NLW<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Lunch in the Pen Dinas caf\u00e9 in the National Library of Wales &#8211; which I&#8217;m afraid I failed to enjoy. I could not do justice to the amazing ham in mustard sauce and the towering cheesecake &#8211; nerves about my impending session that afternoon. However the conversation was fascinating, my first chance to really engage &#8211; a break from sorting out the speakers and the day. The website is visually stunning, a colourful feast &#8211; which the project hopes to match with content contributed by institutions and communities from across Wales and a range of facilities and services (like digital scrapbooks) for the public to re-use and re-arrange the display, e.g. for ramblers plotting a route or for teachers to show their pupils.
