At <em>RunCoCo<\/em> events, projects have come together to exchange success-stories and to discuss the challenges of various community engagement models.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/melissa\/files\/2011\/03\/flipchart.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/melissa\/files\/2011\/03\/flipchart-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" \/><\/a>Alun\u00a0 and Ylva presented on community collections and the power of the crowd at the JISC conference 2010<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/melissa\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=1381&amp;action=edit#_edn1\">[i]<\/a>, at blended learning<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/melissa\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=1381&amp;action=edit#_edn2\">[ii]<\/a> conferences in the UK and at meetings or workshops across Europe.\u00a0Kate contributed to the debate \u2018Should the general public be involved in academic research?\u2019 in <em>JISC Inform<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/melissa\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=1381&amp;action=edit#_edn3\">[iii]<\/a><em>. <\/em>\u00a0The types of projects represented at the <em>RunCoCo<\/em> events and the topics covered included: community collection; using <em>Flickr<\/em> for crowdsourcing; manuscript transcription; \u2018<em>citizen science<\/em>\u2019; community archives; community archaeology; mass observation; engaging communities like school children, the elderly or the homeless; digital storytelling; digitisation; policies, strategies and impact; good practice for Web design; content management systems; trust and authenticity; copyright and IPR; communications, marketing and publicity; project and \/ or community sustainability; digital preservation; social media and social networking e.g. <em>Facebook<\/em>, <em>Flickr<\/em> and <em>Twitter<\/em>; and \u2018Big Society\u2019.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll host\u00a0a \u00a0final event in May 2011, \u201cBeyond Collections: Crowdsourcing for public engagement\u201d at OUCS <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/melissa\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=1381&amp;action=edit#_edn4\">[iv]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/melissa\/files\/2011\/03\/runcoco.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/melissa\/files\/2011\/03\/runcoco-211x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"211\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>The workflows and systems developed for <em>The Great War Archive<\/em> have been re-used in different contexts, and <em>RunCoCo<\/em> has made these freely available for future projects to use, re-use and build upon. Community Collection software \u2018<em>CoCoCo\u2019 <\/em>developed by Oxford University is available and the system has been adapted for use by others<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/melissa\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=1381&amp;action=edit#_edn5\">[v]<\/a>.
