{"id":18,"date":"2009-08-26T15:24:48","date_gmt":"2009-08-26T14:24:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/elearning.oucs.ox.ac.uk\/networks\/?p=18"},"modified":"2009-09-24T11:51:16","modified_gmt":"2009-09-24T10:51:16","slug":"wireless-application-firewall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/networks\/2009\/08\/26\/wireless-application-firewall\/","title":{"rendered":"Wireless Application Firewall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In order to prevent &#8216;Location Independent Network&#8217; abuse resulting in C&amp;D orders landing on the desks of ITSS, we&#8217;ve recently added an <a title=\"Allot Netenforcer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.allot.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=271&amp;Itemid=88888966\" target=\"_blank\">Allot Netenforcer<\/a> to the backend of eduroam and OWL. It will be configured to block P2P traffic and we plan to provide an ADSL-type experience for users, to ensure fair use of wireless resources (roughly speaking: 8Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload to Oxford IPs, 2Mbps download and 0.5 Mbps upload to the Internet).<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve not announced this formally yet as we are waiting for a software patch from Allot which will allow us to enable a &#8216;catch all&#8217; rule for P2P type traffic, in addition to the rules for known protocols like BitTorrent.
