IT Innovation Challenges advent calendar 2019<\/p><\/div>\n

The University of Oxford is old. Very old.\u00a0There is evidence of teaching as early as 1096,\u00a0which makes it\u00a0the oldest university in the English-speaking world. But did you know that it is less than 100 years since women were allowed to become\u00a0full members of the university and\u00a0have the right to get degrees? Even though they could not get a degree, women did study here also before 1920. A number of academic halls\u00a0were established for women from 1878, and women could receive an education and take exams even though they could not get an Oxford degree.<\/p>\n

‘Education and Activism: Oxford Women 1878-1920’ is an IT Innovation Challenges project looking to create an innovation digital resource about women in Oxford before 1920. The project is creating a website with information and\u00a0documents from the period. There will be a walking tour, a gallery, and much more. It will be launched at an event on\u00a0the 14th October 2020, to the day 100 years since women first took their degrees here.<\/p>\n
