It was intended as a Christmas present to those serving at Christmas in 1914 and was paid for by a public fund backed by Princess Mary.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The 3D model reveals the embossing through the play of light on the object\u2019s surface and gives a sense of the object\u2019s age by showing small scratches on its back \u2013 a detail usually not visible in photographs.<\/p>\n<p>Other objects on Cabinet that relate to Christmas\u00a0 include<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabinet.ox.ac.uk\/1979-offer-letter-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">offer letter from Queen&#8217;s College<\/a> to Alison Sanders from 1979,<\/li>\n<li>a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabinet.ox.ac.uk\/field-postcard#\/media=3103\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">British field postcard<\/a>\u00a0from 1915 with Christmas greetings in the margins and<\/li>\n<li>the intricately designed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabinet.ox.ac.uk\/prague-1584-celestial-globe-clock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">celestial globe clock<\/a> purchased by Emperor Rudolf II\u00a0at Christmas in 1584.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Find out more about Cabinet<\/h3>\n<p>Cabinet is designed to support the use of\u00a0objects and\u00a0images in teaching and its ultimate aim is to make material culture as accessible for learning as traditional text-based sources.
