{"id":614,"date":"2017-11-22T14:30:04","date_gmt":"2017-11-22T14:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/dst\/?p=614"},"modified":"2021-04-14T12:13:30","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T11:13:30","slug":"connectivity-issues-with-dell-latitude-7370-laptops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/dst\/2017\/11\/22\/connectivity-issues-with-dell-latitude-7370-laptops\/","title":{"rendered":"Connectivity issues with Dell Latitude 7370 laptops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few months ago we were\u00a0made aware of the below issues affecting staff usign Dell Latitude 7370 laptops:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Frequent loss of connection to network. Sometimes not working when first logging in, sometimes the connections drop throughout the day.<\/li>\n<li>Logging in \/ out intermittently takes excessive amounts of time.<\/li>\n<li>Whilst docked, laptops seem to flick between Ethernet and WIFI connections frequently for no apparent reason.<\/li>\n<li>External mouse and keyboard sometimes aren\u2019t detected at start-up whilst docked, and a full reboot is required. The issue duplicates when disconnecting and reconnecting to dock during the day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After spending some time investigating the issue\u2019s and testing different scenarios we have found that updating the Drivers, BIOS and WD15 dock firmware resolve the issues and also improve security on these models.<\/p>\n<p>We plan to email all users who currently have a Dell Latitude 7370 so that\u00a0they can schedule a time with us for the updates to be applied.\u00a0The update process\u00a0shouldn&#8217;t take more then 20 minutes\u00a0so please make sure you\u00a0are free on the time and date you have selected. When the updated is initiated you will be prompted to confirm you are happy to go ahead with the updates.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/dst\/files\/2017\/11\/Message_box.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-620 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/dst\/files\/2017\/11\/Message_box.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"482\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/dst\/files\/2017\/11\/Message_box.png 482w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/dst\/files\/2017\/11\/Message_box-300x111.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 482px) 100vw, 482px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>What will happen during the update?<\/strong> (User interaction is required)<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The software will be deployed to\u00a0the laptop at the agreed time and date<\/li>\n<li>You will be asked if they want to carry out the update<\/li>\n<li>If you select YES on step 2 the update process is initiated (If you select no we will be in touch to re-schedule it for another time)<\/li>\n<li>The laptop drivers will be updated<\/li>\n<li>Then the BIOS update will be applied\u00a0and the laptop will restart<\/li>\n<li>Once this is complete you will be prompted to enter your passphrase<\/li>\n<li>Now the\u00a0WD15 dock\u00a0firmware will\u00a0be updated and the laptop will restart again<\/li>\n<li>Once the update has been applied you will\u00a0be required to enter a passphrase\u00a0one more time and the system will\u00a0load to the Windows login screen<\/li>\n<li>To finishes the\u00a0dock firmware please remove the USB-C cable\u00a0that goes from the dock to the laptop and remove the power supply from the back of the dock<\/li>\n<li>Wait for 15 seconds, then replace the power lead\u00a0into the back of the dock and the USB-C cable into the laptop<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once you have carried out the above steps you should be able to log into windows and carry on working as normal.
