The service is free of charge to departments\u00a0at the point of use, this means that the software which is used to capture lectures (Panopto) can be installed on any number of computers in any number of rooms, or on any personal laptops.<\/p>\n<p>Replay\u00a0is an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imsglobal.org\/activity\/learning-tools-interoperability\" target=\"_blank\">IMS LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability)\u00a0tool<\/a> that handles user authentication via WebLearn,\u00a0before linking to Panopto.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/lecture-capture\/2016\/07\/28\/replay-is-now-a-service\/\">A July 2016 blog post about Replay<\/a>\u00a0provides more information about the service.<\/p>\n<h2>Adding\u00a0the Replay tool to a WebLearn site<\/h2>\n<p>Recorded lectures are made available to students by adding the Replay tool to a WebLearn site (&#8216;Site Info&#8217; &gt; &#8216;Manage Tools&#8217;\u00a0then select the &#8216;Replay&#8217; tool at the bottom of the list of tools). All site participants will be able to view the lectures in the Replay\u00a0folder.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5730 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2017\/05\/Screen-Shot-2017-05-03-at-12.04.28-e1493809498727.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"75\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once the tool has been added, it can be used to\u00a0upload existing videos\u00a0or\u00a0record new ones\u00a0for use in teaching. For example, a lecturer can record video snippets on their own laptop to reinforce certain topics, dispel misconceptions,\u00a0or present background\/supplementary information before delivering the live lecture; or, of course, record the live lecture for students to refer to later for revision and reinforcement.<\/p>\n<p>The Replay tool\u00a0can be accessed by students either in the <strong>left hand tools menu<\/strong> (with a default title of &#8216;Recorded Lectures&#8217;)\u00a0&#8211; this will happen automatically after\u00a0having added the tool as described above; and\/or as a<strong> hyperlink on a &#8216;Lessons&#8217; page<\/strong> (see next section).<\/p>\n<p>The following options are available for linking to Replay recordings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>one entire folder containing multiple recordings (covered in this blog post)<\/li>\n<li>multiple folders of recordings\u00a0from a single\u00a0WebLearn site<\/li>\n<li>one individual\u00a0recording within a Replay\/Panopto folder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The second and third possibilities are <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/5821\">&#8216;advanced options&#8217;, described in a separate blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Linking to a Replay folder from within a Lessons page<\/h2>\n<p>The Lessons tool is a relatively new addition to WebLearn. <em>We recommend that all student-facing content be developed within the Lessons tool (rather than as an HTML page in Resources).\u00a0<\/em>Lessons is far better for developing structured\u00a0&#8216;learning pathways&#8217; for students and it\u00a0offers better authoring capabilities\u00a0compared to an HTML page (in Resources).<\/p>\n<p>To add a link to the Replay tool from within a Lessons page, go to the Lessons tool and click on the &#8216;Add Content<em>&#8216;<\/em> link, then click &#8216;Add External Tool&#8217;<em>. For this example, we will leave the\u00a0&#8216;Custom Parameters&#8217; box blank\u00a0 (this option allows you to provide the URL and link to a particular recording within Panopto &#8211; see our <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/5821\">separate &#8216;advanced options&#8217; blog post<\/a>).
