However, we have had reports of users experiencing problems with Microsoft Windows when trying to connect to WebLearn via WebDAV; people\u00a0are seeing reports of a &#8220;Network Error&#8221;. Most of these reports seem to be with Windows 10 but we&#8217;ve also heard the same complaint about Windows 7.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, we strongly recommend\u00a0that staff and students\u00a0use a dedicated third-party WebDAV client such as Cyberduck or WinSCP. Both are are available for free. In this article we concentrate on WinSCP\u00a0which, unlike Cyberduck,\u00a0<strong>does not need &#8220;administrator privileges&#8221; to install<\/strong> on one&#8217;s desktop. This may be a better option for people who have managed desktops (aka CONNECT machines). There is a separate blog post explaining <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/2016\/09\/how-to-upload-files-into-weblearn-using-webdav\/\">how to use Cyberduck<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of writing (October 2016), &#8220;portable WinSCP&#8221; can be downloaded from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/winscp.net\/download\/WinSCP-5.9.2-Portable.zip\">https:\/\/winscp.net\/download\/WinSCP-5.9.2-Portable.zip<\/a>.\u00a0We have not heard of any connection problems when using WinSCP.<\/p>\n<p>(It is possible that there may now be a later version, to check, visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/winscp.net\/\">https:\/\/winscp.net\/<\/a>\u00a0and check if a version later than 5.9.2 exits, if it does, visit the downloads page and choose the &#8220;portable executables&#8221; \u00a0link.)<\/p>\n<p>A ZIP file containing WinSCP should be automatically downloaded when you visit the above URL, if it does not then click on the &#8220;Direct Download&#8221; link indicated in the screen shot.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5295\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/10\/winscp-download-300x170.png\" alt=\"winscp-download\" width=\"300\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/10\/winscp-download-300x170.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/10\/winscp-download.png 745w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Before running WinSCP it is absolutely essential to check that you are running up to date Anti-Virus software<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; you can never be too careful about running software downloaded from the web.<\/p>\n<p>To run WinSCP you should double click on &#8220;WinSCP.exe&#8221;, elect to Run the file when asked.
