We have also included a list of <strong>known issues<\/strong> &#8211; we will be working to address these over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n<h3>Responsive User Interface<\/h3>\n<p>The most obvious improvement to WebLearn is the completely redesigned user interface. This\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5128\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/08\/responsive-sakai-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"responsive-sakai\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/08\/responsive-sakai-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/08\/responsive-sakai-768x431.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/08\/responsive-sakai-1024x575.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>uses<strong> responsive design<\/strong> to offer easy access and viewing across all devices including desktops, tablets and smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>WebLearn will automatically select the optimum display style based on the size of screen being used. (You will note that this redesign involves a new set of icons, known as &#8220;Font Awesome&#8221;, and a new default textual font that is better suited for use on a mobile.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5160\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/logout-11-300x217.png\" alt=\"logout-11\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/logout-11-300x217.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/logout-11.png 476w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>(My) <strong>Sites<\/strong> and <strong>Quick Links\u00a0<\/strong>have been redesigned and a new <strong>personal navigation area<\/strong> has been\u00a0added (which includes the\u00a0<strong>Logout<\/strong> link). If you have set one up, \u00a0your profile photo will be displayed (this photo is also used in Forum posts and other areas within WebLearn). Please refer to this handy blog post entitled &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/juonline.wordpress.com\/2016\/06\/16\/how-do-i-select-a-profile-image\/\">How do I select a profile image?<\/a>&#8216;<\/p>\n<h3>Improved\u00a0HTML WYSIWYG Editor<\/h3>\n<p>There is an updated and improved HTML editor, including &#8216;<strong>auto-save<\/strong>&#8216; facility, LaTeX mathematical notation and new file browser (&#8216;elfinder&#8217;)\u00a0which is used\u00a0when linking to\u00a0and uploading new files or images.<\/p>\n<h3>Favourite Sites<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5162\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/faves-11-300x134.png\" alt=\"faves-11\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/faves-11-300x134.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/faves-11.png 761w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>A redesigned &#8216;<strong>Sites<\/strong>&#8216; drawer\u00a0(formerly &#8216;My Sites&#8217;) which enables you to change the order\u00a0and &#8216;pin&#8217;\u00a0your favourite sites providing &#8216;one-click&#8217; access from the main menu bar.<\/p>\n<p>To set a site as a &#8216;Favourite&#8217; simply click the star icon in the Sites drawer. LaTeX updates include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>identical output for all browsers and platforms<\/li>\n<li>no images or special browser plugins required<\/li>\n<li>accessible, with screen-reader compatibility<\/li>\n<li>scalable font for different text sizes and zoom levels<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>LaTeX needs activating on\u00a0each\u00a0site via <strong>Site Info &gt; Edit Site Information, <\/strong>then enabling for individual tools via<strong> Site Info &gt; Manage Tools.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>External Tool Support<\/h3>\n<p>Support for IMS LTI (version 2) and IMS LTI Content-Item Message (for enhanced functionality with third-party plug-in tools) has been added. This allows WebLearn to be a &#8216;hub&#8217; into which &#8216;best-of-breed&#8217; 3rd party learning tools can be plugged.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5176\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/plug-11-300x113.png\" alt=\"plug-11\" width=\"300\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/plug-11-300x113.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/plug-11.png 674w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>IMS LTI v2 offers:\n<ul>\n<li>the passing back of marks to Gradebook from a 3rd party tool<\/li>\n<li>rich and complex\u00a0two way communication between WebLearn\u00a0and 3rd party tool<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>IMS LTI Content-Item Message 1.0 is an IMS LTI specification for<strong> exchanging content<\/strong> between applications and tools. (Sakai was the first VLE to support this new standard.) It:\n<ul>\n<li>enables external (LTI) tools to appear in the same way that internal tools do<\/li>\n<li>adds a new message type allowing a 3rd party tool to be used to\u00a0create content (including LTI links) within WebLearn<\/li>\n<li>can return a hyperlink, a chunk of HTML (such as an &#8216;iframe&#8217;,\u00a0<em>cf\u00a0<\/em>YouTube &#8217;embed&#8217; code) or actual content such as a video, web page or ZIP file (eg, an IMS Common Cartridge)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We hope that external tools such as Panopto (Replay) and Xerte will support this standard in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>Other minor improvements include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an interface to select a <strong>custom icon<\/strong> for each LTI tool<\/li>\n<li>the list of available IMS LTI tools (aka <strong>Plugins<\/strong>) are always displayed in <strong>Site Info<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>PA System<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5188\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/pa-11-300x185.png\" alt=\"pa-11\" width=\"300\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/pa-11-300x185.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2016\/09\/pa-11.png 674w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The PA System provides the WebLearn team\u00a0with the ability to deliver timely alert banners and popups system-wide or to targeted sets of users. From simple banners at the top of the interface to fully customisable popup notifications, this system provides new and powerful ways to keep WebLearn\u00a0users informed.
