{"id":3328,"date":"2014-03-20T15:45:52","date_gmt":"2014-03-20T15:45:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/?p=3328"},"modified":"2014-03-20T15:45:52","modified_gmt":"2014-03-20T15:45:52","slug":"proposal-prevent-the-removal-of-read-access-from-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/2014\/03\/proposal-prevent-the-removal-of-read-access-from-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Proposal: Prevent the removal of &#8216;read&#8217; access from Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In our Easter upgrade, we propose to put measures in place to stop site managers from removing the &#8216;Read resources&#8217; permission within the Resources Tool.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for this is that over the last couple of years we have had a number of complaints from users which have been as a direct result of the removal of this permission &#8211; it is a little known fact that all attachments associated with a site (including Assignments tool submissions) are effectively stored in a hidden &#8216;attachments&#8217; folder in Resources.<\/p>\n<p>Removing the &#8216;Read resources&#8217; permission has a number of undesirable side-effects including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>all attachments become unreadable, the affects Schedule, Announcements, Email Archive and so on<\/li>\n<li>Assignments tool submissions misbehave<\/li>\n<li>HTML pages stored in Resources become inaccessible<\/li>\n<li>the Home page may become unreadable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2014\/03\/read-resources1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3332\" alt=\"read-resources\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2014\/03\/read-resources1.jpg\" width=\"746\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2014\/03\/read-resources1.jpg 746w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2014\/03\/read-resources1-300x104.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 746px) 100vw, 746px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you think that this action will cause problems on one or more of your sites then please contact us: <a href=\"mailto:weblearn@it.ox.ac.uk\">weblearn@it.ox.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In our Easter upgrade, we propose to put measures in place to stop site managers from removing the &#8216;Read resources&#8217; permission within the Resources Tool.
