Three new features at site level:<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Short URL<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you click on a link icon on a page, a pop-up window appears showing the URL of the page\/tool.\u00a0 In the pop-up window, click the check box next to \u2018Short URL\u2019, the URL is shortened.\u00a0\u00a0 Then you can link to the tool\/page using the short URL.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/short-url1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2109\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/short-url1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"519\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/short-url1.png 742w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/short-url1-300x181.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 519px) 100vw, 519px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Site templates<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Instead of creating a site from scratch, you can create your site based on a number of templates.\u00a0 The first three of six templates are &#8216;Template for tutor&#8217;, &#8216;Template for lecturer&#8217; and &#8216;Template for content&#8217;.\u00a0 It is hoped that the templates will help with commonality and consistency across sites.\u00a0 <a title=\"WebLearn Templates\" href=\"https:\/\/weblearn.ox.ac.uk\/access\/content\/group\/info\/guidance\/templates.html\">More details of the templates. <\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Collapse site menu<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>By clicking on double arrow icon, the site menu will be collapsed to show tool&#8217;s icons only.\u00a0 This will provide more space for the content.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the overall improvements, a number of tools are also enhanced.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Forums<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>New features in Forums include an improved <em><\/em>User Interface, sortable threads,\u00a0 displaying author photos, setting availability for forums or topics, and linking to a message directly.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>User interface: it is now much easier to distinguish Forums and Topics<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/forums.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/forums.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"714\" height=\"276\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If you have already uploaded your photo into &#8216;Profile&#8217; via &#8216;My Workspace&#8217; your photo will be displayed alongside your posts.\u00a0 People can click on your photo to see further information that you added in your profile: personal summary, contact information, etc. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/forums2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/forums2-300x125.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"153\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>In the Forums and topics setting, you can now set open and close dates for forums and topics respectively.<\/li>\n<li>You can link directly to a message via a \u201cCopy Link\u201d button.<\/li>\n<li>A count of how many people have read a message is now displayed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Resources<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Two major changes to Resources are the short URL facility and a better explanation of permissions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Short URL facility: you can find the short URL of a file or a folder via Actions -&gt; Edit Details &#8211; &gt; Web address<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/short-url.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/short-url.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"589\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/short-url.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2033\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/short-url.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"471\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/short-url.png 558w, https:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/short-url-300x154.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 471px) 100vw, 471px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Permissions interface enhanced:\u00a0 permissions in a number of tools including Resources are more descriptive and easier to understand.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/new.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/new.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"558\" height=\"406\" \/><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Sign-up <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A large number of new features have been developed in the Sign-up tool. \u00a0 For example, adding new \u2018Categories\u2019 field, enabling automatic creation of internal subgroups based on sessions, and manually emailing attendees.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New \u2018Categories\u2019 field: you can now tag your events, e.g. seminar, tutorial or meeting.\u00a0 The categories appear in a column in a table where all meetings listed.\u00a0 You can sort the categories by clicking the column heading: category.<\/li>\n<li>Terms are translated from American to British English: e.g. \u2018biweekly\u2019, has been changed to \u2018fortnightly\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Internal subgroups can be created based on session attendees who choose the same time-slot.<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/sign-up-groups.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/sign-up-groups.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"573\" height=\"157\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/sign-up_group.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/sign-up_group.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"559\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Group synchronisation: If \u2018Create groups for timeslots\u2019 is ticked (see above), a group name appears under \u2018Manage subgroups\u201d in Site Info.\u00a0 However, it initially shows zero member. \u00a0As participants sign up, cancel, or are moved into the participant list from the waiting list you need to manually click on the \u2018Synchronise\u2019 button to update the group members.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/sync.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/08\/sync.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"571\" height=\"96\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Change organiser: a sign-up session can be assigned to any maintainer or contributor in the site.<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/sign-up-owner.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/sign-up-owner.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"694\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Attendees can choose more than one time slots in a multi-slot meeting.<\/li>\n<li>Recurring meetings in a series can be deleted at once.<\/li>\n<li>You can now manually email all or individual attendees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/sign-up-email.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs-new.it.ox.ac.uk\/adamweblearn\/files\/2012\/07\/sign-up-email.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"503\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can prevent cancellation is disabled by attendee after closure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Profile <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The new profile tool comes with a number of new features.\u00a0\u00a0 It is much easier to add photos to your profile.\u00a0 The improved privacy settings enable you to specify what information in your profile is shareable. In addition,\u00a0\u00a0 it has been integrated with a number of social networking tools including Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Skype and MySpace.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Schedule (Calendar) <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Calendar is a rather powerful tool which allows you to bring certain external calenders into WebLearn as well as exporting WebLearn calendars to other calendar tools such as MS Outlook.<\/p>\n<p>The improved Calendar tool enables you to generate a private URL of a WebLearn site calendar, and then use this URL to overlay view this WebLearn calendar events in another calendar tool, e.g. MS Outlook.\u00a0\u00a0 To better explain the functionality of the Calendar tool,\u00a0 more descriptive terminologies have been used: e.g. Merge (internal calendars), Import, Export (public URL), Merge (external calendars), and Subscribe (generate private URL).<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Email Sender (formerly Mailtool)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As a new tool, it has not only replicated the functionality of old tool, but also brought improvements.
